As opposed to the more common type 304 steel, the type 316 contains the added element molybdenum which increases the materials corrosive resistance to high chloride environments and other marine applications. A poplular choice for marine rigging, these regular duty thimbles, sometimes called standard or light duty, are great for light duty applications.
