Micarta® was the original knife handle material. But before that, it proved its toughness and durability in demanding electrical and mechanical industrial applications. Pioneered by the Westinghouse company for use in power generating and utility scale transformers, the Micarta® brand became synonymous with a specific style of laminated composite — paper and cotton fabric reinforced phenolic. Now available in several different colors, combinations, and surface treatments, UltreX™ paper and cotton phenolic materials use the original production methods of Westinghouse, updated with today’s process and environmental controls. And unlike other “micarta” available in the market, UltreX™ Micarta® is produced in the USA.
